The Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) is an
organization of licensed Amateur Radio Operators working with military
stations, who are interested in military communications and electronics.
MARS creates interest and furnishes a means of training members in
military communications procedures. It provides a potential reserve of
trained radio communications personnel to provide auxiliary
communications for military, civil, and/or disaster officials during
periods of emergency and provides Department of Defense sponsored
emergency communications on a local, national, and international basis
as an adjunct to normal communications. Army MARS is directed by
the NETCOM/9th Army Signal Command out of Ft. Huachuca, AZ. MARS provides a volunteer manned
communications system for handling MARS administrative traffic, morale
and quasi-official record and voice communications traffic for U. S.
Armed Forces and authorized U. S. government civilian personnel
stationed throughout the world. Finally, it offers training designed to
stimulate interest in military communications and electronics career
fields.
If you are interested in Emergency Communications, or handling traffic
to include morale traffic for military personnel and their families, you
should check out Army MARS. There are numerous radio nets daily
throughout the Army MARS Eastern Area to participate in, once you are an
authorized member.
More Members Means More capacity to meet the Needs and Goals of MARS:
To Provide a Back-up Resource for 'Client' agencies and Command
Structures in Natural or Man-Made Emergencies.
To Pass Morale and Military Messages of a non-combat nature to and from
the United States and Military installations and Ambassadorial locations
worldwide.
To provide a trained Cadre of Volunteer Radio Communications personnel
in the event need should arise for such.
Delaware Army MARS main mission is
to provide emergency communications support and radio communications
network engineering and maintenance support to the Delaware Army
National Guard. Delaware Army MARS maintains a statewide network of
three VHF repeaters and a statewide VHF packet network. We also operate a
mobile emergency communications trailer as well as a state gateway with
connections to other federal and state agencies. Delaware MARS
assists in the support of the Delaware National Guard State Area Command
(STARC) radio station and backup radio communications in many of the
state's armories.
